2026 LSI Scholarship Application

Ligure Scholars, Inc. (LSI) is a tax-exempt educational organization [IRC 501(c)(3)] dedicated to supporting students with a demonstrated interest in Italian history and culture who are in pursuit of higher education. LSI is proudly supported by The Ligure Club, Inc. of Oakland, California.

To be eligible, applicants must:

1. Be a graduating high school senior applying to an accredited 2-year or 4-year college, university, vocational school, or conservatory.
2. Find a Ligure Club Sponsor, you'll be required to including the sponsor’s name and relationship (must be a current Ligure Club member).
3. Submit a 500-word personal statement describing higher education and career goals.
4. Submit a 250-word essay demonstrating interest in Italian history and/or culture through specific examples.
5. Provide two recommendation letters from recent teachers, counselors, or community members.
6. Attach an official copy of your high school transcript (original not required).
7. Submit the Online Application (including all required documents) by March 31st, 2026.
8. Participate in a virtual interview via Zoom on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

Scholarship amounts are determined by the LSI Interview Committee and approved by the LSI Board of Directors. All applicants meeting these minimum criteria will receive merit awards upon verification of enrollment.

• Affiliation with a Ligure Club sponsor.
• Academic success.
• Enrollment in higher education.
• Demonstrated interest in Italian history and culture.
• Attendance at an interview.

Candidates who distinguish themselves in relation to the criteria listed above will also be considered for Excellence Awards based on:

• Exceptional academic success.
• Extracurricular activities (e.g., leadership, arts, sports).
• Community service.
• Determination (e.g., part-time work).
• Notable education or career goals.

Notification: Applicants will be informed of the results by April 30, 2026.

• Scholarships are awarded strictly based on eligibility criteria. Sponsor status does not affect the selection process.
• Scholarship funds are disbursed in two installments upon enrollment verification:
  • Fall Term (50%): Submit proof of registration by November 2026.
  • Spring Term (50%): Submit proof of registration by March 2027.
